Following the tête-à-tête and inter-delegation meetings at the Presidential Complex, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria proceeded to a signing ceremony for several agreements concluded between the two countries.
At the ceremony held in the presence of President Erdoğan and President Tinubu, the Presidency's Head of Communications, Prof. Burhanettin Duran, and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, signed the "Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Media and Communication between the Government of the Republic of Türkiye and the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria."
The Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Presidency's Directorate of Communications and the Ministry of Information and National Orientation of the Federal Republic of Nigeria aims to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the fields of media and communication.
In accordance with the agreement, the parties will encourage the exchange of information and expertise, the sharing of best practices, the support of mutually beneficial initiatives and projects, and the organisation of meetings, seminars, workshops, training, and conferences. In addition, initiatives will be undertaken to carry out joint efforts aimed at increasing mutual visits by officials and experts in the fields of media, communication and broadcasting.
In line with the Memorandum of Understanding signed on the occasion of this visit, the parties will continue to engage in joint efforts to effectively implement the cooperation on the basis of reciprocity and mutual benefit in line with the laws, regulations, and national policies in force in their respective countries.
The Memorandum of Understanding, which has entered into effect as of today, will remain in force for three years.
Furthermore, Head of Communications Duran shared a message on his NSosyal account, offering his assessments regarding the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Media and Communication.
In his post, Head of Communications Duran said:
"In the presence of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, we signed the 'Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Media and Communication' with the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Nigeria, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu.
Through this initiative, we aim to establish a stronger communication bridge between the two institutions by increasing the exchange of information, experience, and technology in the fields of media, communication, and public diplomacy between Türkiye and Nigeria, two friendly and brotherly countries.
I believe that this cooperation will contribute to the development of accurate, reliable, and multidimensional information efforts between the two countries, the active fight against disinformation, and the further deepening of cultural interaction and common values.
In line with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's vision that 'a fairer world is possible', we will continue to strengthen our long-standing ties with Africa through strategic initiatives."
