“Türkiye and Estonia have the potential to further their cooperation”

Speaking at a joint press conference with President Karis of Estonia, President Erdoğan said: “During our talks, I and my treasured counterpart have reaffirmed our common will to improve the Türkiye-Estonia relations. We have addressed the joint steps we will take to that end. We have the potential to further our cooperation in all areas.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President Alar Karis of Estonia held a joint press conference following their bilateral meeting at the Presidential Complex.

“During our talks, I and my treasured counterpart have reaffirmed our common will to improve the Türkiye-Estonia relations. We have addressed the joint steps we will take to that end. We have the potential to further our cooperation in all areas,” President Erdoğan said, and added: “We have the capability to increase our mutual investments and trade volume, which approximates 429 million dollars. We will inshallah hold as soon as possible the first meeting of the Joint Committee on Economy and Trade, which we established last year. With that meeting, we will have set out a new roadmap on our economic and commercial relations.”

“WE WILL IMPROVE OUR COOPERATION IN DEFENSE INDUSTRY”

Stressing their belief that they as two NATO allies will improve the current cooperation they have built in defense industry with additional concrete projects, President Erdoğan went on to say: “We consider the diversification of our relations in a wide range of areas, from science and technology to education, culture and tourism, to be the most important investments we will be making to the future of our cooperation. Estonia holds an important position in the world in digital transformation, digital applications and cyber defense. During our talks, we have discussed how we can share our experiences in these areas. I sincerely believe that our close bilateral relations and our solidarity within NATO will continue by growing stronger on solid foundations.”

“FULL MEMBERSHIP TO THE EU IS OUR STRATEGIC GOAL”

Stating that they have discussed the Türkiye-European Union relations as well as current regional and global matters during their bilateral meeting, President Erdoğan noted:

“As we stress on every occasion, full membership to the European Union is our strategic goal. It is obvious that the Union viewing Türkiye in a similar perspective is for our common interest. I believe that Estonia’s support to Türkiye will increasingly continue on the basis of this understanding. I have shared my expectation with Mr. Karis on this occasion.”

Pointing out that the war in Ukraine has been on the agenda of their meeting as well, President Erdoğan continued as follows: “I have once again underlined our support to Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. The immediate cessation of the destruction in Ukraine and reaching a just and ultimate resolution for the parties are possible only through diplomacy. We continue to convey our suggestions to parties to that end. Also, we preserve our view that initiatives that exclude Russia will not yield desired results.”

“THE PATH TO LASTING PEACE GOES THROUGH TWO-STATE SOLUTION”

“Undoubtedly, the atrocity taking place in Gaza has been on our agenda as well,” President Erdoğan said, and added: “The massacres Israel has been continuing to carry out despite the international community’s call for a lasting ceasefire threaten not only the regional stability, but also the global security. Those who are responsible for this barbarity in Gaza will be eventually brought to justice before international law. Let me hereby once again underscore that we will be following this issue. The need for an urgent ceasefire and delivery of humanitarian aid still continues in order for the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza to end. We as Türkiye will do our best on these issues. The path to lasting peace goes through two-state solution. It is now time for the international community to use their influence.”
