President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye and President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi of Egypt signed the Joint Declaration on the Restructuring of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council Meetings.
While on an official visit to the Egyptian capital of Cairo, President Erdoğan inked the joint declaration on cooperation between the two countries along with President Sisi of Egypt.
The declaration indicates the long-established, shared historical and cultural ties between Türkiye and Egypt and emphasises Ankara and Cairo's commitment to strengthening their strong relations in all fields to serve the common interests of both countries and peoples, as well as to enhance solidarity and cooperation to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in their regions and beyond.
In light of this, meetings of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council will henceforth be co-chaired by the presidents of the two countries. Alternating between Türkiye and Egypt, the Council will meet every two years. The foreign ministers of the two countries will coordinate the work and prepare the agenda for each meeting.
In preparation for the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, Joint Planning Group meetings will be organised under the co-chairmanship of the foreign ministers of the two countries, bringing together senior officials from other relevant ministries and institutions.
Within the scope of the agreement between Türkiye and Egypt, cooperation will be made in the fields of "political and diplomatic, economy, trade, banking and financial services, investments, transportation, aviation, maritime, tourism, health and labour, security, military and defence industry, countering all kinds of organised crime and terrorism, culture, education, science and technology, energy, mining, agriculture, environment, forestry, housing and urban transformation and climate change, communication and information, consular affairs."
In order to revitalise cooperation in these areas, the foreign ministers and other relevant ministers of both countries were tasked, in coordination, with taking all necessary measures to prepare the necessary Memoranda of Understanding and Agreements and with completing the necessary internal procedures to ensure their ratification and entry into force.
