“Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Media and Communication” was signed between Türkiye and Cambodia.
Presidency's Head of Communications Fahrettin Altun met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia Sok Chenda Sophea and the accompanying delegation at the Directorate of Communications.
During the delegations' meeting, Head of Communications Altun expressed his pleasure in hosting Sok Chenda Sophea.
Stressing that they attach great importance to the accelerating relations between the two countries, Head of Communications Altun said that they view the reciprocal visits and the agreements reached during these visits as crucial steps towards developing and expanding bilateral relations.
“Cooperation in the field of media will yield positive repercussions on every field”
Stating that the friendship between Türkiye and Cambodia is reflected in the agreements in the field of communication and media, Head of Communications Altun said:
"In this regard, we value the partnership between Agence Kampuchea Press (Cambodia's Official News Agency) and Anadolu Agency (AA), which began in February 2024. Through the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Media and Communication, we aim to further strengthen the friendly relations between our countries and further develop cooperation in the fields of media and communication. In this context, our countries will collaborate to improve, promote, and expand cooperation and the exchange of knowledge and experience in communication and digital literacy, as well as combating misinformation, public diplomacy, media, and broadcasting. The Memorandum of Understanding will facilitate the exchange of information and expertise and the sharing of best practices and experiences in the fields of media and communications between the two countries. Meetings, seminars, workshops, training programmes, and conferences will also be scheduled to facilitate exchange visits between officials and experts inmedia, communication, and broadcasting. Additionally, we believe that collaboration in communication and media will have a positive impact on various aspects of bilateral relations, including trade, investment, culture, and tourism.''
''Our efforts in combating disinformation have been crucial''
Emphasising that Türkiye is one of the world's leading countries in terms of knowledge, know-how, and experience in the fields of communication and media, as well as digitalisation and its opportunities and weaknesses, Head of Communications Altun also noted that they have made critical efforts in a short period of time, particularly in combating disinformation, which has become a global threat with digitalisation.
Head of Communications Altun remarked that the Directorate effectively combats disinformation on a national, regional, and global scale.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Kingdom of Cambodia Sok Chenda Sophea stated that they would be delighted to collaborate closely with Türkiye in the field of media and communication, strengthen cooperation in this field, and share experiences.
Following the delegation meeting, Altun and Sok Chenda Sophea signed the memorandum of understanding between the two countries.
