“Turkish-German University’s success will set an example for the foundation of new joint universities”

Speaking at the opening ceremony of Turkish-German University’s new facilities, President Erdoğan said: “Efforts are underway to found in Turkey other joint universities such as Turkish-Japanese Science and Technology University and Turkish-Italian University. We hope these efforts come to a successful conclusion as soon as possible. In this regard, Turkish-German University’s success will set an example for the foundation of new joint universities.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, inaugurated Turkish-German University’s new facilities in Istanbul.

“Turkish-German University has become one of the engines of our academic cooperation in a short time”

Noting that Turkish-German University is a public university founded on April 10, 2010 in order to improve scientific, cultural and technological cooperation between the two countries, President Erdoğan said: “The university, which started its activities in the 2013-2014 academic year, has become one of the engines of our academic cooperation in a short time. The university, with its bilingual education, five faculties, one vocational school and two institutes, is taking firm steps towards becoming one of the most prestigious educational institutions in Turkey.”

President Erdoğan continued: “We hope our country will attract qualified academics; in other words, it will become a destination for brain gain. This was the vision that had paved the way for the emergence and realization of Turkish-German University as a project. Currently, similar efforts are underway to found in Turkey other joint universities such as Turkish-Japanese Science and Technology University and Turkish-Italian University. We hope these efforts come to a successful conclusion as soon as possible. In this regard, Turkish-German University’s success will set an example for the foundation of new joint universities.”

“The chaos in Libya will spill over to the entire Mediterranean if an environment of peace cannot be achieved without delay”

Stressing that humanity is faced with many troubles including terrorism, Islamophobia, cultural racism and xenophobia, President Erdoğan stated: “In a world with such a multitude of means of communication and transportation, no one can remain oblivious to these problems no matter where they live. The incidents in Syria, Yemen, Iraq and Libya have once again demonstrated that the region we live in has a shared destiny. The clashes waging on in Syria for the past nine years have affected not only neighboring countries such as ours but also the whole Europe, Germany in particular. Likewise, the chaos in Libya will spill over to the entire Mediterranean basin unless an environment of peace can be achieved without delay.”

President Erdoğan added: “We have to speed up the settlement process if we don’t want to see such terrorist organizations as DAESH and Al-Qaeda or foreign mercenaries regain strength in Libya. Our primary objective is to put an end to this crisis, in which more than 2,400 people have died, more than 7,500 people have been wounded and more than 300,000 Libyans have been displaced. To achieve this objective, we work in cooperation with Germany, a friend and ally of ours.”
