Turkish delegation meets with members of the US Congress

Deputy Foreign Minister Yavuz Selim Kıran and his accompanying delegation met with several members of the US Congress in Washington to discuss bilateral relations between Turkey and the US.

Selim Kıran and a delegation comprising the Rector of Altınbaş University and a member of the Presidential Security and Foreign Policy Board Prof. Çağrı Erhan who were in Washington to attend the “Turkey-US Relations: Same Origin/New Vision” event organized by the Presidency’s Directorate of Communications, met with several members of the US Congress.

In the morning, the delegation met with the Senator of the North Carolina Republican Tom Tillis, and later met separately with Florida Representative, Republican Francis Rooney, Mississippi Representative Republican Trent Kelly and Tennessee Representative Republican Tim Burchett.

According to information received from diplomatic sources, as well as bilateral relations, issues such as Turkey's purchase of S-400, the establishment of a safe zone in Syria, cooperation in the fight against terrorism and other regional issues were discussed.

Also at the meeting, the process regarding the extradition of FETÖ leader Fethullah Gülen and other FETÖ members and Turkey’s expectations on this issue were taken up.

The delegation, which will continue its contacts in Washington tomorrow, will meet with members of Congress as well as with representatives of non-governmental organizations and media outlets.
