“We stand by the press members who work with a sense of responsibility despite all challenges, and witness wars, disasters and suffering for the sake of satisfying people’s need to receive news and information in every corner of the world.” Presidency’s Communications Director Prof. Fahrettin Altun noted.
Altun issued a message on the occasion of July 24 Journalists and Press Day.
In his message, Altun stated that providing the public with real, accurate and reliable information about the developments in the country and around the world is one of the fundamental elements of democracy and pointed out that the existence of a polyphonic, effective and free media atmosphere is an integral part of democratic culture.
Noting that press members who exert efforts to inform individuals and society with the sense of the responsibility required by the profession perform a critical function, Altun said: “"Press members have important responsibilities in protecting the right to information, raising public awareness, expressing and maturing all kinds of constructive ideas. Again, one of the biggest duties against the disinformation attempts targeting our country in the national and international arena falls upon our press members."
Emphasizing that these days when disinformation and fake news can be easily disseminated, society's access to accurate and real information can be possible thanks to principled and objective press members, Altun said: "Among the issues we handle sensitively and extend support is the establishment of an atmosphere for the media in which our press members have more comfortable, freer and safer working conditions, earn what they deserve and develop themselves by faithfully adhering to the principles of professional ethics and journalism.
We stand by the press members who work with a sense of responsibility despite all challenges, and witness wars, disasters and suffering for the sake of satisfying people’s need to receive news and information in every corner of the world. On July 24 Journalists and Press Day, I would like to congratulate the members of the press who work strenuously and devotedly to fulfill their duties under all conditions, and wish them success.”
