“Turkey has discovered the largest-ever natural gas reserve of its history in the Black Sea”

“Turkey has discovered the largest-ever natural gas reserve of its history in the Black Sea”

Holding a press conference on the natural gas reserve discovered in the Black Sea, President Erdoğan said: “Turkey has discovered the largest-ever natural gas reserve of its history in the Black Sea. The Fatih, our drilling vessel, has discovered 320 billion cubic meters of natural gas reserve during its drilling in the Tuna-1 Zone which it started on July 20, 2020.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a press conference at Dolmabahçe Palace in Istanbul on the natural gas reserve discovered in the Black Sea.

“BEHIND ALL THESE SCHEMES PLOTTED IN THE EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN LIES THE FIGHT FOR THE SHARING OF ENERGY RESOURCES”

Noting that energy is not only a fundamental element of development but also plays a crucial role in achieving national independence to the fullest, President Erdoğan said: “Realization of the visions set out by countries is in proportionate to the stability in the energy industry. There has been no turmoil, chaos, war, conflict or confrontation in the last century not caused one way or another by energy calculations. A brutal order has been established in which even millions of lives are at times disregarded for the control and security of oil and natural gas fields. This inhumane global order, which sees a drop of oil more valuable than a flood of blood, still prevails.”

Touching upon the developments that have taken place in Syria over recent years, President Erdoğan stated: “While we went to the areas where there were the oppressed and the wronged, some others, leaving aside everything else, directly headed for oil production facilities. We saw the same situation in Libya, as well. While we were working to save our Libyan brothers and sisters from putschists upon their call, some others just popped up at oil fields yet again.”

“OUR DRILLING VESSEL, THE FATIH, HAS MADE US PROUD WITH A SUCCESS WORTHY OF ITS NAME”

“Turkey has discovered the largest-ever natural gas reserve of its history in the Black Sea. The Fatih, our drilling vessel, has discovered 320 billion cubic meters of natural gas reserve during its drilling in the Tuna-1 Zone which it started on July 20, 2020,” President Erdoğan said.

“I remember the day I bid farewell to the Fatih from the Bosphorus. Thanks be to Allah, the Fatih has achieved results and made a discovery. Our Drilling Vessel, the Fatih to which we bid farewell at the beginning of its journey to the Black Sea, has made us proud with a success worthy of its name. All the necessary testing, analysis and engineering works have been completed at the Tuna-1 now renamed ‘the Sakarya Gas Field.’ The data, obtained from the field, indicate that new natural gas discoveries in the same area are highly likely. In other words, the reserve found in this first well is only part of much richer resources. Inshallah similar discoveries will be made soon," President Erdoğan noted.

“WE AIM TO PUT THE BLACK SEA GAS TO THE USE OF OUR NATION BY 2023”

“I believe we as a country, which has suffered from external dependency in energy for years, will now look to the future in a more confident manner,” President Erdoğan underlined. Highlighting that Turkey has conducted this operation completely with national means and capabilities, President Erdoğan said: “We aim to put the Black Sea gas to the use of our nation by 2023.”

“WE EXPECT SIMILAR GOOD NEWS IN THE MEDITERRANEAN”

“We, via the Fatih and Yavuz, have conducted 9 deep sea drilling so far in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. Finally, we have had the honor of giving the long awaited good news to our nation following the last drilling. Inshallah, we expect similar good news in the Mediterranean. We will step up our activities in the Mediterranean when the Kanuni, which is currently under maintenance, becomes operational by the end of the year.”

“TURKEY WILL CONTINUE TO INVEST IN FUTURE TECHNOLOGIES”

Underscoring that Turkey, while focusing on conventional energy resources, will also carry on with its investments in future technologies, electric engine in particular, President Erdoğan said that Turkey will continue to march towards its goals without having its eyes on anyone’s rights or allowing anyone to encroach on its own rights. The President further stressed: “Those who stand against us on this issue, Greece in particular, know that we are right. Particularly, the European Union should see that it is once again betraying its own principles and undermining the values, which keep the bloc on its feet, due to the double standard it displays by spoiling and unleashing Greece on us. No one should forget that the nonsense maps, which circulate around and have no validity, will sooner or later cause the biggest harm to the EU.”
