President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will deliver the opening speech of the Summit, which will bring together experts in the field of communication from around the world at the Haliç Congress Centre.
International Strategic Communication Summit (Stratcom Summit ’21), organized by the Presidency’s Directorate of Communications in Istanbul between December 11-12, will kick off tomorrow. Representatives from academia, think tanks, the public sector, the media, the private sector, non-governmental organizations, and international organizations will attend the Summit.

121 speakers from 23 countries
Representatives from academia, think tanks, the public sector, the media, the private sector, non-governmental organizations, and international organizations will attend the Summit.
Presidency’s Director of Communication Fahrettin Altun will also deliver opening remarks at the Summit, which will take place over two days in two halls with 121 speakers and over three thousand participants from 23 countries.
The Summit will address current issues such as strategic communication, public diplomacy, digital diplomacy, disinformation, crisis management, communication campaigns, state communication, new media, public relations, open intelligence, social media network analysis, metaverse, nation branding, market data, trends in new communication technologies, strategic marketing, media budgets, impacts of algorithms on human life, opinion research and political communication.
Speakers will include senior executives from NATO, the European Union, the OECD, the United Nations, and other international organisations
On the first day of the summit, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan Hikmet Hajiyev will deliver a speech titled, “Karabakh: Communication of a Victory”.
During an exclusive session titled “Life Begins When We Connect,” Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoğlu will discuss the strategic achievements of Türkiye’s transportation, infrastructure, and communication projects.
Senior executives working in the field of strategic communication from international organisations such as NATO, the European Union, the OECD, the United Nations (UN), UNICEF, UNEP, UNDP, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will participate as speakers.
UNICEF Director of Communications Paloma Escudero with the presentation titled “Communicating for Every Child”, the OECD Director of Public Affairs and Communications Anthony Gooch Gàlvez with the presentation titled “Communicating in Times of COVID-19 Pandemic”, the IAEA Digital Communications and Public Information Materials Head Miklos Gaspar with the presentation titled “Communicating Nuclear Energy”, are among the speakers of the summit.
Stars of Strategic Communication at Haliç Congress Centre
At the “Türkiye’s Brands” special session, Gürcan Karakaş, CEO of Türkiye’s Automobile Joint Venture Group (TOGG), Mehmet Kalyoncu from Istanbul Grand Airport (IGA), and Mert Dorman from Turkish Airlines (THY) will share the stories of our country’s leading brands with the audience.
At the summit, prominent figures of Türkiye's advertising and media planning ecosystem, such as Alemşah Öztürk, İlkay Gürpınar, Gonca Karakaş, Nüzhet Algüneş, will also take part at sectoral panels.
Domestic data and artificial intelligence companies operating in the international market such as Etiya, Datamind, Tazi.ai and Somera will evaluate current developments. Data from research in the fields of information wars, disinformation, and open intelligence will be presented to the audience at the summit, with the participation of academics from Türkiye and abroad.
Details of Türkiye’s domestic and international activities in various fields will be presented. Leading digital publishers of our country will present their views on the redefined journalism profession in a special session of the summit.
Many bureaucrats who shape their countries’ communication strategies will share their experiences
High-level bureaucrats who shape communication strategies in countries such as Singapore, Great Britain, Estonia, Latvia, Chile, Kosovo, and Nigeria will share their experiences with communication campaigns in their respective countries.
Alex Stuart Aiken, who served as Government Communication Services (GCS) Head of Profession will deliver a speech in the morning session on the first day about the fundamental principles of Strategic Communication.
In addition, Janis Sarts, Director of NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence, will make a presentation on strategic communication.
President of the Turkish Red Crescent Kerem Kınık will share Türkiye’s experiences in humanitarian aid and crisis communication in a special session.
At the summit at the Haliç Congress Centre, an exclusive panel featuring women communication professionals will also be held.
At the summit, executives from Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) and Anadolu Agency will address the latest developments in public broadcasting in exclusive panels, while “The Future and Content Strategy of Video” panel will delve into the video-watching habits of today’s youth.
Global CEOs of world-renowned research companies such as IPSOS CEO Ben Page and Nielsen CEO Yuneeb Khan, as well as public authorities, will speak at the summit, which will also be attended by the globally known social media influencers, authors, and academics.
Famous Figures Discuss the Impact of Emerging Technologies on Communication and Human Life
Stratcom Summit ’21 will also feature famous authors and speakers such as Twitter influencer Vala Afshar, Simon Anholt, regarded as the founding father of nation branding, and Sheera Frenkel, author of the world’s best-selling book on Facebook, The Ugly Truth.
Among the speakers are Nancy Snow, Derina Holtzhausen, and Glen Gilmore, all of whom are respected academics in the fields of marketing, technology, public diplomacy, and strategic communication, as well as David Carroll, who gained recognition for his work uncovering the Cambridge Analytica scandal and narrating the documentary, The Great Hack.
A panel showcasing real-life experiences on Syrian businesspeople’s contributions to the Turkish economy will be featured at the Stratcom Summit.
Finally, at the summit, our active-duty soldiers who served in Türkiye’s close-quarters fight against DAESH will share their firsthand experiences with the audience.

Director of Communications Altun touched upon the summit, saying that strategic communication has become increasingly vital as technology has advanced in the 21st century and that the Directorate of Communications is hosting a major worldwide conference in this field.
Director of Communications Altun said that the summit would be the melting pot of the strategic communication ecosystem, emphasising that the summit aims to elevate Türkiye’s global brand value in strategic communication by bringing together the world’s most notable names in the field in Istanbul.

“With the summit, which will be held for the first time this year, we aim to establish Istanbul as the global centre of strategic communication studies. This summit, which will highlight current debates, concerns, and future trends in a comprehensive and scientific manner, will also serve as a focal point for increased teaching and research on the strategic communication ecosystem.”
