Statement regarding President Erdoğan’s meeting with President Xi Jinping of China

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who is in China for the 25th Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Council of Heads of State, met with President Xi Jinping of China.

During the meeting, where the economic cooperation between the two countries was thoroughly discussed, President Erdoğan stated that bilateral trade should be supported by investments to ensure balance and sustainability, emphasised the great potential in the fields of digital technologies, energy, health, and tourism, and noted that it would be beneficial in this regard to enhance coordination regarding Chinese companies making investments in Türkiye.

President Erdoğan noted the importance of taking joint steps to harmonize the Middle Corridor with the Belt and Road Initiative.

At the meeting, it was agreed to regularly operate the existing consultation and cooperation mechanisms between the two countries.

Reiterating Türkiye’s support for the “One China” policy, President Erdoğan highlighted the strategic dimension of the relations between the two countries.

The meeting also addressed the latest situation in Gaza, the war between Ukraine and Russia, joint steps that could be taken for the reconstruction of Syria, and regional and global issues.
