Statement regarding President Erdoğan’s meeting with President Putin of Russia

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who is in China for the 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), met with President Vladimir Putin of Russia.

The meeting addressed the bilateral relations between Türkiye and Russia, as well as regional and global matters.

During the meeting, President Erdoğan stated that relations between Türkiye and Russia continue to move forward on the basis of mutual respect and shared interests, and that the longstanding spirit of cooperation sustains across domains encompassing trade, tourism, investment, and energy.

President Erdoğan underscored Türkiye's ongoing efforts to bring the war in Ukraine to an end through a just and lasting peace, expressing his belief that the Istanbul negotiations contribute to the peace process.

Voicing his hope that the negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia would result in a lasting peace, President Erdoğan noted that lasting stability in the Caucasus would serve the mutual interests of both Türkiye and Russia.

The meeting also included an exchange of views concerning Israel's attacks on Gaza, as well as Syria's development in a way that maintains its territorial integrity and political unity.
