President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan paid an official visit to Kuwait, where he met with the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
During the meeting, bilateral relations between Türkiye and Kuwait, as well as regional and global issues, were discussed.
President Erdoğan emphasised that the existing cooperation between Türkiye and Kuwait in areas such as investment, energy, trade, and the defence industry is of strategic importance, and that there is strong potential to further develop the deep-rooted relations stemming from the past.
President Erdoğan stated that Türkiye is pleased to follow the efforts of Kuwait, the Term President of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), in promoting regional stability. He also noted that the Free Trade Agreement currently under negotiation between Türkiye and the GCC will contribute to enhancing commercial ties with the brotherly Gulf countries.
President Erdoğan underlined that preserving the hard-earned ceasefire in Gaza is of critical importance and emphasised that a two-state solution is essential for lasting peace. He stressed the need for the Islamic world to maintain a unified stance on this matter, as it has in the past.
President Erdoğan affirmed Türkiye’s commitment to maintaining Syria’s political unity and territorial integrity and expressed the desire to work together with brotherly Arab nations in building a brighter future for the Syrian people.
Four agreements signed between Türkiye and Kuwait
In the presence of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, four agreements were signed between the two countries.
President Erdoğan, who arrived for official talks and was received with an official ceremony, held both bilateral and inter-delegation meetings with the Emir of Kuwait Al-Sabah.
President Erdoğan gifted Türkiye’s domestically produced EV, Togg, to Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Meshal Al Sabah.
Meetings at Bayan Palace were followed by the signing ceremony of several agreements in various areas between the two countries.
The "Maritime Transport Agreement" between Türkiye and Kuwait and the "Memorandum of Understanding on the Mutual Recognition of Seafarers' Certificates" between the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Türkiye and the Ministry of Interior of Kuwait were signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan, and Kuwaiti First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah.
The memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of energy between Türkiye and Kuwait was signed by Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar and Kuwait’s Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy and Minister of Finance and Acting Minister of State Minister for Economic Affairs and Investment, Dr Subaih Abdulaziz Abdulmohsen Al-Mukhaizeem.
A memorandum of understanding regarding cooperation in the field of direct investment promotion between the Republic of Türkiye, represented by the Investment and Finance Office of the Presidency, and the State of Kuwait, represented by the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA), was signed by Ahmet Burak Dağlıoğlu, President of the the Investment and Finance Office of the Presidency, and Sheikh Dr Sheikh Dr. Meshaal Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Director General of the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority.
