Statement regarding President Erdoğan’s meeting with Al-Sabah

During the meeting between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Israel's attacks on Gaza, as well as economic and trade relations between the two countries, were addressed.

Comprehensive talks were held on economic and trade relations between Türkiye and Kuwait during the meeting held on the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Throughout the meeting, which covered initiatives across a variety of sectors, including the defence sector and the Development Road Project, the steps necessary to boost bilateral trade to $5 billion were discussed.

The necessity of reviving the Joint Economic Commission Mechanism between Türkiye and Kuwait was one of the agenda items of discussion. It was brought up that increasing bilateral trade and investment is in the best interests of both countries.

During the meeting, assessments of the two countries' future cooperation in the areas of diplomacy, culture, health, tourism, and education were covered.

President Erdoğan affirmed that Türkiye will continue to support Kuwait's territorial integrity, sovereignty, and security while pledging to maintain close ties with the country at all levels.

"Türkiye has consistently pursued a permanent cease-fire"

The agenda of the meeting additionally touched upon Israeli hostilities against innocent Palestinians in Gaza. 

President Erdoğan emphasised the significance of Kuwait's stance against the Israeli oppression, stating that it is empowering to the Palestinian cause and that Türkiye has consistently pursued a permanent cease-fire since the beginning of the conflict. He underscored that the Islamic world work together to establish an independent, sovereign, and geographically integrated Palestinian state based on 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, to promote peace and prosperity in the region.

Stressing the importance of developing cooperation between the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Organisation of Turkic States, President Erdoğan said that Kuwait's support for these efforts is important and will ensure the opening of new windows of opportunity.
