Statement by National Security Council

"It was called upon to reverse the decision (the decision of the USA to lift the arms embargo against the Greek Cypriot Administration), which will adversely affect the peace and equilibrium in the Eastern Mediterranean and which is also against the spirit of alliance."

A statement was issued following the National Security Council (NSC) meeting at the Presidential Complex, which was chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The NSC Statement emphasised that the circles encouraging Greece to arm the islands with non-military status were invited to use common sense.

The statement indicates that during the meeting, the council was informed about the operations conducted with determination, perseverance and success against all kinds of threats and dangers to national unity, solidarity and survival, particularly the terrorist organisations PKK/KCK, PYD/YPG, FETO and DAESH and that the additional measures were discussed.

The statement underlines that additional measures to be taken against the actions that the PKK/KCK terrorist organisation, which is in the collapse period, could take at home and abroad, were discussed, and the following evaluations were included:

"The negative repercussions of the events observed in Iraq recently and the PKK/KCK terrorist organisation's efforts to gain ground and damage our bilateral relations by exploiting this situation have been discussed: the importance of acting within the framework of a common understanding in the fight against terrorist organisations has been pointed out. Despite our calls to comply with its commitments arising from international law and treaties, Greece's provocative actions, which does not stop its illegal practices, have been discussed in detail. It has been strongly stressed that we will not refrain from using all kinds of legitimate methods and means within the framework of international law in order to protect the rights and interests of our nation against the futile efforts of the Greek administration, which is moving so far away from reason and logic that it will sabotage even the NATO activities and open fire on civilian ships sailing in international waters. The circles encouraging Greece to arm the islands with non-military status were invited to use common sense."

Invitation to recognise the independence of the TRNC

According to the statement, the meeting also addressed the Unites States’ decision to lift the arms embargo against the Greek Cypriot Administration (GCA). "It was called upon to reverse this decision, which would adversely affect the peace and equilibrium in the Eastern Mediterranean and is also against the spirit of alliance. All countries were invited to recognise the independence of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, emphasising that Türkiye will resolutely continue its multifaceted efforts to defend the rights of the Turkish Cypriots.", the statement reads.

The statement emphasised that Armenia was condemned for its provocative actions against Azerbaijan, that the Armenian administration should seize the peace opportunity that has been provided to it, and that it should remember its duty to uphold all of its contractual obligations. The statement also noted the following:

"It was reaffirmed that strong support remains for Azerbaijan, which makes great efforts to achieve lasting peace, and it was emphasised that all the actors involved in the issue, particularly the countries in the region, should contribute sincerely to a permanent solution rather than exacerbating the disagreements. It was stated that immediate action must be taken to end the ongoing war in Ukraine as soon as possible, and it was also stated that Türkiye would continue to exert efforts to ensure peace and alleviate the humanitarian crisis and global-scale damages, such as establishing the grain corridor and implementing the prisoner exchange. It was noted that the latest developments in Libya should not jeopardise the environment of peace and dialogue established with great sacrifice and should not impede the people's will. It was underlined that credible, fair, and free elections, which will play an essential role in the country's future, should be held as soon as possible in accordance with democratic procedures."
