Presidency’s Head of Communications, Burhanettin Duran, made statements on his NSosyal account regarding a missile launched from Iran that subsequently headed toward Gaziantep.
In his post, Head of Communications Duran stated the following:
"A ballistic missile launched from Iran and detected heading towards Türkiye was timely engaged and neutralised by NATO air and missile defence assets over the Şahinbey district of Gaziantep. No casualties or injuries have been reported in the incident.
The development has been closely monitored by all our institutions since the very first moment, and the necessary defence and security measures have been promptly activated. In this context, all relevant units, particularly the Ministry of National Defence, are acting in full coordination. The will and capability of our state to protect Türkiye’s airspace and border security are at the highest level.
It is of great importance that tensions in the region do not escalate further and that the conflict does not spread to a wider area. We once again strongly reiterate our warning to all parties, particularly Iran, to refrain from actions that could endanger regional security and put civilians at risk.
During this period, we kindly request that our citizens and media organisations exercise due caution regarding unverified content that may cause public panic or contain disinformation, and that they rely solely on statements issued by our official authorities."
