Presidency’s Head of Communications, Burhanettin Duran, made statements on his NSosyal account regarding a missile launched from Iran that subsequently headed toward Türkiye’s airspace over the Hatay region and developments in the area.
In his post, Head of Communications Duran stated the following:
"A missile launched from Iran and directed towards our airspace from the direction of Hatay, after passing through the airspace of Iraq and Syria, was destroyed by NATO air defence systems. A fragment of an interceptor missile fell in an open area in the Dörtyol district of Hatay, and no loss of life or injuries occurred.
Our institutions have monitored the process in real time and in full coordination. Our resolve and capacity to ensure the security of our country and our esteemed nation remain at the highest level. All necessary steps to defend our territory and airspace will be taken without hesitation. Any potential hostile acts encountered will be responded to in accordance with international law. During this process, consultations and cooperation with NATO and Allies will continue.
We reiterate our warning to all parties to refrain from steps that could escalate tensions in the region and lead to the spread of the conflict to a wider area. It is of great importance that all parties act with a sense of responsibility.
In this process, we particularly request that media outlets and social media users act with greater sensitivity and refrain from giving credence to unverified reports or posts that may cause panic among the public or contain disinformation. It is crucial to exercise caution with any information or content other than official statements.
As President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has repeatedly emphasised, Türkiye is engaged in intensive diplomatic efforts to ensure that peace, stability and dialogue prevail in the region. Under the leadership of President Erdoğan, our country is playing an active role in preventing the escalation of tensions, protecting civilians, and resolving disputes through peaceful means in accordance with international law.
In the face of such developments, our unity and solidarity as a nation constitute our greatest strength. All institutions of our state remain fully engaged.
Türkiye will continue to fulfil its responsibilities with a constructive approach to reduce tensions in the region and ensure that issues are resolved through peaceful means."
