The decisions taken at the Supreme Military Council (YAŞ) Meeting held at the Presidential Complex under the chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan were announced.
During the Council’s meeting, the promotions of the generals, admirals and colonels at the Turkish Armed Forces to a higher rank, the extension of their term in office, and the transfer of those who will get retired due to the age limit and not being permanent staff were discussed.
The decisions approved by President Erdoğan are as follows:
Being effective as of August 30, 2020; 17 generals and admirals were promoted to a higher rank, 51 colonels were promoted to generals and admirals, while the tenure of 35 generals and admirals were extended for one year and 294 colonels’ terms in office were extended for two years. 30 generals and admirals would get retired as of August 30, 2020, as they had not been listed as permanent staff. The number of generals and admirals, currently 226, will be 247 as of August 30, 2020.
As of August 30, 2020, Lieutenant General Metin Gürak was promoted to full general and Major General Veli Tarakcı was promoted to Lieutenant General from Turkish Land Forces Command while Naval Commander Vice Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu was promoted to full admiral and Rear Admiral Upper Half Aydın Şirin was promoted to Vice Admiral.
Brigadier Generals from the Land Forces Command Tevfik Algan, Halil Soysal, İdris Acartürk, Zorlu Topaloğlu, Muammer Alper, Emre Tayanç, Hakan Öztekin, Davut Ala and Sıtkı Varlı were promoted to Major General, while Rear Admirals (LH) from the Naval Forces Command Ayhan Gedik and Mustafa Kaya were promoted to Rear Admiral (UH), Brigadier Generals from the Air Force Command Yaşar Kadıoğlu and Hüseyin Duman were promoted to Major General.
We wish that the new ranks and duties of the generals, admirals and colonels, who have been promoted to a higher rank and whose tenure has been extended will be auspicious for our Nation, State, Armed Forces and their families.
