President Erdoğan’s post on May 1 Labour Day

On the occasion of May 1 Labour and Solidarity Day, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan posted a message on his social media account.

In his post, President Erdoğan recalled that he was the son of a veteran father who made his living as a captain.

Stating that he had worked hard as a worker at IETT in his youth, President Erdoğan said, "I know very well the happiness of labour, the sweat of the brow, sharing a hot loaf with friends. In our struggle to serve our country through politics, we have never forgotten these roots and where we came from. We have always tried to give credit where it is due. We have declared May 1, which has been used as abuse material for many years, a holiday for you, and we have made it labour day in a real sense."

Emphasising that they have taken significant steps in the health and safety of workers along with organisation, trade union rights and wages, President Erdoğan noted:

"We have increased the minimum wage from 184 liras in 2002, corresponding to 126 dollars, to 8 thousand 500 liras, that is, 437 dollars today. We have exempted from taxation the minimum wage and other wage earners' income up to the minimum wage. Whatever we have done, we have done together, we have achieved together, and we have overcome difficulties together, hand-in-hand. Inshallah, we will build the Century of Türkiye together with you.
I am counting on your support, my fellow workers, on May 14. I sincerely congratulate you on your May 1 Labour and Solidarity Day."
