On the 101st anniversary of the Sivas Congress, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan noted the following: "We once again reiterate that our nation which will not accept mandate or tutelage will protect its beautiful homeland as a whole and will never let it be divided”
President Erdoğan shared a message on the occasion of the 101st anniversary of the Sivas Congress.
Underscoring that the date September 4, 1919, and the Sivas Congress had a very important place in the nation’s memory as it constituted one of the turning points for the Turkish War of Independence, Erdoğan continued:
“The Sivas Congress became a cornerstone of the National Struggle and the preparations for the War of Independence were carried out therein. It was declared, likewise, to the whole world from Sivas that our nation would never submit to the occupying forces and was ready to fight by clasping tight to each other. The decisions taken at the Sivas Congress played an important role in the determination of the National Oath, the opening of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, all the phases of the War of Independence and the foundation of the Republic of Turkey.”
Indicating that the decisions taken at the congress also acted as the nation’s manifesto of independence to the entire world during its most challenging times, President Erdoğan proceeded as follows:
“Our nation has always resisted in unity and solidarity against the threats directed at their flag, homeland and independence. Young or old, woman or man, all of our people safeguarded the national will and their future with the spirit of War of Independence. Any sort of threat that may be directed towards our freedom, values or solidarity shall be eliminated as long as our unity and solidarity persists. On the 101st anniversary of the Sivas Congress, we once again reiterate that our nation which will not accept mandate or tutelage will protect its beautiful homeland as a whole and will never let it get divided. We are determined to embrace the national stance embodied at the Sivas Congress. Those who take aim at our flag or independence will be faced with the same will and be disappointed.”
Stating that, with the power from their history filled with glorious victories, they were heading into the future with steady steps and working with tenacity and determination for Turkey to progress and move forward in every aspect, Erdoğan noted the following:
“On the anniversary of the Sivas Congress, I commemorate with respect and gratitude Gazi Mustafa Kemal and all of our heroes, and I remember with gratitude each of our ancestors who worked hard, sweated blood and even sacrificed their own lives for thousands of years to make these lands our home. I wholeheartedly greet all the people of Sivas who hosted the Congress, as well as all the people of Turkey.”
