President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan issued a message on the occasion of "June 5 World Environment Day".
In his message, President Erdoğan said:
"Nature whispers a soft yet potent and unequivocal message: It responds to us as we treat it. Global warming, desertification, mass mortality among certain animal species, sudden floods, and landslides occurring in recent years are nature's way of defending itself in the face of the cruelty of humankind.
World Environment Day, which we, as Türkiye, observe each year on June 5 to assess environmental issues and developments, is not merely a day for raising awareness but also a major call to us all.
We bear the responsibility of building a greener world, a more sustainable way of living, and a livable environment for future generations. No one can shift this responsibility onto someone else's shoulders, nor can they shirk their duties.
Our current era is marked by the greatest impact on the environment in human history. Our natural resources are rapidly depleting, the effects of climate change are intensifying, and biodiversity loss is approaching an irreversible threshold.
Confronting these realities and taking action is the shared responsibility not only of environmental institutions but of every individual, every organisation, and all of humanity.
Our administration remains committed to its efforts to protect the environment and achieve sustainable development. We support projects that protect nature and take comprehensive steps to implement policies on green energy, recycling, zero waste, and environmentally friendly urbanisation.
We regard our land, water, air, and forests as a trust for future generations rather than an inheritance for them. Doing right by this trust is one of our most fundamental duties.
On this special day, we strive to foster a culture of living in harmony with nature, aiming to leave a cleaner environment for our children.
I believe that, in the Century of Türkiye, we will achieve our goal of becoming the country with the most livable natural environment in the world, where natural resources are used efficiently.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, I once again call upon our citizens and all of humanity to be mindful of energy efficiency, waste management, nature conservation, and environmentally conscious consumption habits.
Celebrating June 5 World Environment Day, I wish for a sustainable and conscious way of living that honours nature to become widespread across all segments of society. I extend my most heartfelt greetings to all of our citizens."
