President Erdoğan’s message on June 5, World Environment Day

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said, "For a greener, cleaner Türkiye, we are rapidly implementing significant efforts in waste management, climate-friendly technology, energy resource utilisation, air, water, and soil quality improvement, afforestation campaigns, and planned urbanisation throughout the country."

In his message posted on the occasion of June 5, World Environment Day, President Erdoğan stated that the world is currently facing significant environmental disasters, including global warming, desertification, and a decrease in biodiversity.

Stating the resolution of global environmental issues is the only way to create a more habitable and greener world, President Erdoğan underlined that environmental issues are a shared concern for humanity, and their solution necessitates international cooperation.

Pointing out that since 2022, the week of June 5 has been designated as "Türkiye Environment Week" in order to encourage greater participation in World Environment Day and to address environmental issues and developments, President Erdoğan added:

"For a greener, cleaner Türkiye, we are rapidly implementing significant efforts in waste management, climate-friendly technology, energy resource utilisation, air, water, and soil quality improvement, afforestation campaigns, and planned urbanisation throughout the country. Solid waste collection facilities, which are critical for protecting human and environmental health, have been expanded throughout the country.

The Zero Waste Movement has evolved into an environmental movement and economic cycle model that the rest of the world takes as an example. In today's world, where drought is becoming a bigger threat, significant steps have been taken to preserve our underground and surface water resources. The number of drinking water facilities, as well as flood control facilities and wastewater treatment plants has been significantly increased to bolster our defenses against recent floods. Meanwhile, efforts are also ongoing to construct underground dams."

President Erdoğan said that they also support projects for the preservation of natural assets, urban planning efforts, afforestation campaigns and prevention of environmental pollution.

President Erdoğan noted:

"Instead of wasting the water we drink, the air we breathe, the soil we tread on, and the resources we consume carelessly, we continue our efforts to establish an understanding of consumption that respects nature, prioritises environmental responsibility and finds fulfilment in moderation. In this regard, all of us, particularly parents and educators, have great responsibilities. For the establishment of the Century of Türkiye, we will continue our efforts regarding the environment with an understanding that draws its inspiration from our ancient civilisation. I hope that this day will contribute to increasing social awareness of environmental problems; I call on all our citizens to be responsible in order to leave a greener world for future generations, and I greet you with my most heartfelt feelings."
