President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan congratulated the 97th anniversary of Ankara's becoming the capital.
President Erdoğan issued a message on the occasion of the anniversary of the declaration of Ankara as the capital on October 13, 1923.
Congratulating the anniversary of the declaration of Ankara as the capital, which is the headquarters of the liberation struggle and the administrative centre of the decisions taken for Turkey’s independence and future, Erdoğan noted the following in his message:
“Ankara, which played a historic role during the period of the National Struggle and the establishment of the Republic of Turkey, continues its important position for our country by hosting critical public institutions and organizations, including especially the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, where the national will emerged.
Ankara, which was a small settlement in the past, took part in the struggle for the development and progress of our Republic, became one of Turkey’s most important cities with its facilities of industry, education and infrastructure and inscribed its name among the leading capitals of the world.
On this honourable and meaningful day, I would like to commemorate with respect and gratitude our heroes of the National Struggle, especially Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, all our martyrs and veterans, congratulate the anniversary of the declaration of Ankara as the capital and salute our citizens with heartfelt feelings.”
