In his message on the occasion of the 101st anniversary of the Erzurum Congress, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that the Erzurum Congress, during which the decisions that constituted the core of the motto ‘one nation, one flag, one homeland and one state’ were taken, was also the emphasis of Turkish nation’s passion for independence.
Pointing out that the future of a great nation was planned in terms of the essence and scope of the decisions taken during the Erzurum Congress, and the foundations of a state which would live forever were laid, Erdoğan stressed that the Congress declared to the whole world that it was essential for the great Turkish nation to make the national will prevail.
President Erdoğan noted the following:
“While the Erzurum Congress showed the existence and unity of the Turkish nation to the entire world, it emphasized our determination for independence and revealed that the ultimate goal of the War of Independence was full independence. The Erzurum Congress, where important decisions regarding the national forces, the all-out struggle of the nation, and the National Assembly were taken, continues to enlighten the way of our state and our nation in terms of indigenousness and nationalism. On the 101st anniversary of the Erzurum Congress, I commemorate with respect and gratitude all the heroes of our struggle for independence, especially Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and salute all my citizens with my most heartfelt feelings.”
