President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said, “We will continue to protect our sacred homeland and flag with the same consciousness and allegiance at all times and under all circumstances.”
President Erdoğan issued a message on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the First İnönü Victory.
In his message, President Erdoğan stated that the victory won in the First Battle of İnönü, which was the first battle of the regular army against the Greek army on the western front during the War of Independence, had left its mark in history as one of the most brilliant achievements.
Emphasizing that the First İnönü Victory was also the herald of the final victory of the War of Independence, President Erdoğan noted the following:
“The victory described by Ghazi Mustafa Kemal with the words, ‘The young army of the state of new Turkey, which was small but fought for a national cause, defeated an at least three times larger enemy at the Battle of İnönü’, increased the resolve and perseverance of our nation to struggle. Our glorious victories achieved by our beloved nation in its struggle for independence at the cost of their lives, even amid impossibilities, will continue to be an inspiration for our future. We will continue to protect our sacred homeland and flag with the same consciousness and allegiance at all times and under all circumstances. Taking this opportunity, I commemorate with due respect and mercy all the heroes of our struggle for independence, especially Ghazi Mustafa Kemal.”
