President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said, “We dug through mountains, crossed seas and furnished Türkiye with tunnels.”
In a post with a graph he shared on his social media account, President Erdoğan said, “We dug through mountains, crossed seas, in the last 19 years, we have opened 364 tunnels totalling 567 kilometres and put them into service for our country and nation... With our politics based on projects and services, we will continue to make our dreams come true.”
On the other hand, the graph titled “We dug through mountains, crossed seas and furnished Türkiye with tunnels.” states that the length of the highway tunnel has increased from 50 kilometres in 2002 to 617 kilometres in 2021. The graph also reveals that 364 tunnels with a total length of 567 kilometres and a cost of 64.9 billion Turkish liras were built between 2003 and 2021.
In the graph, which also includes the information that 12 tunnels with a length of 27 kilometres have been completed in 2021, it is stated, “The construction of 108 tunnels with a total length of 431 kilometres and a cost of 49.4 billion Turkish liras is still ongoing. It is planned that until 2023, 470 tunnels with a total length of 647 kilometres will serve the traffic in our road network.”
The graphic also includes photos of the completed tunnels.
