President Erdoğan said, “We are putting our signature under a great success story in energy transformation, renewable energy, and energy efficiency.”
President Erdoğan addressed United Nations High-level Dialogue on Energy meeting with a video message.
President Erdoğan began his speech by greeting the audience and stating that global warming and climate change were among the most important challenges in human history.
President Erdoğan went on to say that even the most remote corners of the world were facing natural disasters, health issues, and economic and social problems triggered by the climate crisis, and made the following remarks:
“This crisis can only be managed through global cooperation. For this we must not leave anyone behind and ensure fair burden-sharing. It is obvious that the energy sector will make the most important contribution in this regard. The formula here is clear: the use of traditional energy sources should be reduced, renewable and clean energy sources should be extended, and energy efficiency should be increased. The purpose of this meeting is to focus on Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7), which basically summarises the issue I mentioned. As Türkiye, we are putting our signature under a great success story in energy transformation, renewable energy, and energy efficiency. We rank fifth in Europe and 12th in the world in renewable energy-based installed power. Our renewable share in the installed electrical power is 53 per cent.”
President Erdoğan remarked that the energy transformation is certainly not an easy process, and that it not only affects all institutions, markets, and consumers in the energy sector, but also has ramifications for other areas at the global, national, and local levels.
President Erdoğan added, "This is why universal or uniform approaches to energy conversion should be avoided. Appropriate policies should be developed taking into account the specific circumstances of the countries. In this context, Türkiye closely follows the issues of new and alternative energy sources, green hydrogen, clean combustion and carbon capture technologies, and offshore wind and wave energy technologies, all of which are highlighted in the European Green Deal.”
"Türkiye will keep doing its part"
President Erdoğan concluded his speech as follows:
“As a responsible member of the international community, our country will keep doing its part in combatting the climate crisis and ensuring clean energy transformation. I'd like to thank Secretary General Guterres, my dear friend, and wish that our meeting will be fruitful for all humanity.”
