President Erdoğan: Türkiye will strike a balance between international climate cooperation and its own development goals

During the High Advisory Board Meeting, which was held under the chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, it was stated that, as part of the Paris Agreement, Türkiye would continue to play its part in the process, collaborating with the international community and would do so with an awareness that strikes a balance between its own development goals and the sensitivities of humanity.

The developments that would occur after Türkiye’s involvement in the process by ratifying the Paris Agreement in the Parliament were discussed at the Presidential High Advisory Board Meeting, which was chaired by President Erdoğan.

During the meeting, the board members assessed the net-zero emission target set for 2053 within the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP-26) National Statement, which was declared as part of harmonisation with the “European Green Deal,” in which Türkiye negotiated the “Green Reconciliation Action Plan,” encompassing the European Union’s 2050 targets.

The board members expressed their views on the Climate Law, which includes policies, targets, and regulations related to climate change and is currently being prepared, emphasising that the fight against climate change necessitates a radical shift in understanding that affects every aspect of life.

At the meeting, President Erdoğan said that Türkiye would continue to participate in the process of climate change collaborating with the international community and would do so with an understanding that strikes a balance between its own development goals and the sensitivities of humanity.

Attending the meeting were the board members İsmail Kahraman, Cemil Çiçek, Köksal Toptan, Mehmet Ali Şahin and Minister of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change Murat Kurum, Presidency’s Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun, Director of Administrative Affairs of the Presidency Metin Kıratlı and Chief of Cabinet to the President Hasan Doğan.

Minister of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change gave a presentation during the meeting.
