President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated at the Inauguration Ceremony of Kocaeli University Health Facilities and Research Centers that Kocaeli University's Oncology Hospital and Rehabilitation Center would be opened along with three medical centers.
Noting that the center actively contributed to the PCR testing services carried out in the region in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, President Erdoğan wished the health facilities with a total investment of 147 million TL to be auspicious and congratulated those who contributed to the construction of the buildings.
"We have witnessed that the healthcare systems of many developed countries have collapsed during the pandemic"
Stating that the coronavirus pandemic, which had cost the lives of approximately 750 thousand people worldwide, uncovered many facts, President Erdoğan noted the following:
"This pandemic has revealed not only the importance of the investments made in healthcare but also the value of the notion of being a social state. We have witnessed that the healthcare systems of many developed countries have collapsed during the pandemic period. We have seen countries who have failed to keep their supply chains uninterrupted and their public orders undisturbed in spite of their economic strengths. There were certain countries that could not supply masks, overalls, and protective medical equipment to their healthcare staff, leave aside their citizens. Certain scenes particularly in the elderly care centers were ingrained in minds as something to draw lessons from and to be ashamed of. There are of course lessons to be drawn on the part of every country from these experiences.
We, as Turkey, have also had the opportunity to try and test our healthcare system and see our strengths and weaknesses. The value of the investments we have made in healthcare, which the opposition constantly criticizes and considers unnecessary, has been understood very well in the pandemic period.
