President Erdoğan watched the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers Group G match of the National Football Team, playing against Latvia at home, in the stadium.
Travelling to Istanbul after his programs in Ankara on the same day, President Erdogan landed at Atatürk Airport and proceeded to the Ataturk Olympic Stadium, where the match was to be played.
President Erdoğan was welcomed at the stadium by Youth and Sports Minister Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu, Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank, Turkish Football Federation (TFF) President Nihat Özdemir, President of the Association of Super League Clubs Foundation and Beşiktaş Club Ahmet Nur Çebi, and TFF Board of Executives members.
Turkish National Football Team Captain Burak Yılmaz had invited President Erdoğan to the game after Erdoğan's call to congratulate the team in the locker room following the matches against Netherlands and Norway.
