President Erdoğan speaks at quake-hit Gölbaşı district of Adıyaman

President Erdoğan and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli made remarks in the Gölbaşı district of Adıyaman, which was affected by earthquakes with the epicentre of Kahramanmaraş and President Erdoğan said, "There has never been another country in the world or such a large population in such a large area that has been exposed to such a disaster and recovered as quickly as ours."

President Erdoğan visited earthquake victims in their containers in the container city of Adıyaman, stating that he met with citizens and then with the city's opinion leaders.

President Erdoğan expressed his best wishes to Adıyaman and the entire nation, recalling that the earthquakes had caused devastation and loss of life in districts such as Gölbaşı and Adıyaman's centre.

President Erdoğan recited Surah Al Fatihah for those who passed and stated that the earthquakes on February 6 and the nearly 10,000 aftershocks, which are described as the "disaster of the century," caused deep wounds in the hearts.

President Erdoğan stated that the sorrows caused by lost lives, demolished homes, and those trapped beneath them will be remembered forever, and added:

“We cannot bring the dead back to life. However, we have the ability to heal the survivors' wounds and replace whatever was destroyed. We immediately rolled up our sleeves and got to work on building safe and peaceful new homes. In Adıyaman and its districts, we will construct 50 thousand residences and village houses. According to the findings of damage assessment studies, this figure could rise even higher. We hope to rebuild our destroyed cities, districts, and villages within a year. There has never been and will never be another country in the world or such a large population in such a large area that has been exposed to such a disaster and recovered as quickly as ours. In our time, Türkiye has managed to erase the traces of all disasters, such as earthquakes, floods, fires, and terrorist attacks. Have we done something similar in Van, Bingol, Izmir, Simav, Malatya, and Elazığ? Yes, we have."

"We are working tirelessly to make up for the shortcomings and delays"

President Erdoğan stated that many cities have been able to recover from earthquake and flood disasters, adding, "Have we done something similar in Antalya, Muğla, and Manavgat? Yes, we have. Our government has survived them all. We have successfully implemented all of them and provided homes for our citizens."

"In our time, Türkiye has managed to erase the traces of all disasters, such as earthquakes, floods, fires, and terrorist attacks. We will do the same in the wake of this earthquake as well," President Erdoğan said, adding that they will never abandon those who are poor, hungry, stray, oppressed, and victims.

President Erdoğan said that they had provided all sorts of in-kind and in-cash aid for earthquake victims and added:

“We will always be there for you until you start a new life in temporary and then permanent housing. Of course, in a disaster of this magnitude, shortcomings and delays are to be expected. But, rest assured, we are working tirelessly as a state and as a government to make up for them. Allah willing, we hope to have you in your new home within a year. We pray that Allah protects our country from greater disasters.”
