President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered a video message for the event marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations (UN).
In his message, President Erdoğan extended his congratulations on the 80th anniversary of the UN, noting Türkiye’s status as a founding member and emphasising that, since its establishment in 1945, the organisation has made notable strides in ensuring global peace and security and fostering international cooperation, which remain its core objectives.
In the video message, President Erdoğan stated:
"It is evident that the United Nations needs comprehensive reform to continue fulfilling the duties entrusted to it. In the face of the atrocities endured by the Palestinian people for years, particularly in Gaza, I believe it is our collective responsibility to transform the United Nations into a platform that truly represents global justice. To this end, we must take steps to carry the United Nations into the future with the same determination demonstrated by its founders 80 years ago, strengthening it to restore international peace, prosperity, mutual trust, and solidarity.
Türkiye is determined to support all reform efforts, including the 'UN80 Initiative' launched under the leadership of the Secretary-General, and to actively contribute to initiatives aimed at ensuring that the United Nations becomes an effective, efficient, and financially robust institution. By reiterating our principle that 'the world is bigger than five', which is based on the need for reform of the UN Security Council, we affirm our belief that 'a fairer world is possible'. At this point, I call upon all member states to urgently take steps that will restore the United Nations as a beacon of hope for humanity. I extend my heartfelt greetings, with the hope that the 80th anniversary of the United Nations will prove auspicious to all humanity."
