President Erdoğan releases message on January 10 Working Journalists’ Day

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated: “The existence of media, which is multivoiced, effective and capable of informing the public without any restrictions, is essential for a democratic and transparent society.”

President Erdoğan released a message on the occasion of January 10 Working Journalists’ Day.

Erdoğan pointed out that Turkey was among the few countries in the world in the field of printed and visual media, social media and online journalism, adapting to the rapid developments in communication technologies, and stated that for the existence of a healthy public opinion, media employees' sensitivity towards relaying impartial and accurate information and professional ethics in their work had gained importance.

Erdoğan stated the following in his message:

“The existence of media, which is multivoiced, effective and capable of informing the public without any restrictions, is essential for a democratic and transparent society. Our country has gone through periods during which our democracy has interrupted and obstacles have been placed in the path to development. It has taken a long time for our press and our society to overcome the negative effects of this period. In the light of the lessons they have learned from the problems experienced, I believe that our media will take into consideration the sensitivities of the society and prevent the dark forces from achieving their goals, that they will no longer respect the tutelage perspective that disregards nation’s will, and that they will fulfil the duty of informing our citizens accurately and impartially.

I congratulate the Working Journalists’ Day of labourers of press and wish God’s mercy upon those members of the press who have passed away while performing their duties and I would like to take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt greetings to all the journalists.”
