Statement regarding President Erdoğan’s meeting with IKRG President Barzani

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan received President Nechirvan Barzani of the Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government (IKRG) at the Presidential Complex.

The meeting addressed Türkiye-Iraq relations, cooperation with the IKRG, and regional developments.

Stating that Türkiye aims to ensure peace and stability in the region, President Erdoğan noted that it is critical to keep Iraq away from the cycle of violence and added that Türkiye is closely following the steps taken by the IKRG in this regard.

Expressing his wish that the upcoming elections for the Council of Representatives in Iraq will be auspicious for all the people of Iraq, President Erdoğan emphasized that he does not consider Iraq’s peace and security separate from our country.

Expressing his satisfaction with the agreement reached between the Iraqi Central Government and the IKRG in the field of oil, President Erdoğan said that achieving a consensus in the short term regarding the Development Road Project would benefit the entire region.

President Erdoğan expressed that they are determined to ensure the success of the ‘Terror-Free Türkiye’ process, and noted that Türkiye attaches importance to the continuation of the IKRG’s support for Syria’s territorial integrity and unity.

President Erdoğan was accompanied by Head of National Intelligence Organisation İbrahim Kalın, Presidency’s Head of Communications Burhanettin Duran, and Chief Foreign Policy and Security Advisor to the President Akif Çağatay Kılıç at the meeting.
