President Erdoğan, Prime Minister Mark Rutte of the Netherlands talk over phone

The call addressed bilateral relations, Sweden’s NATO accession process, the provocative acts against the Holy Quran in Europe as well as regional and global issues. Noting that the 100th anniversary of the Türkiye-Netherlands Friendship Treaty will be marked next year, President Erdoğan voiced his belief that the bilateral relations will be crowned with high-level visits. The call also addressed Sweden’s NATO accession process.

President Erdoğan stated that Sweden has taken steps in the right direction by making amendments in its anti-terror legislation, but the fact that PKK/PYD/YPG supporters continue to freely hold demonstrations that praise terror has negated those steps. Stating that the attacks against our holy book, the Quran, in Sweden cannot be legitimized under the guise of freedom of thought, President Erdoğan noted that the acts are clearly a crime of expression.

The leaders also agreed that the Russia-Ukraine war will be one of the most important items on the agenda of the NATO summit to be held in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius on July 11-12.
