President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke by phone with President Klaus Iohannis of Romania.
The call addressed global and regional issues as well as the Türkiye-Romania bilateral relations.
Stressing the need to enhance the high-level dialogue between the two countries, President Erdoğan noted that establishing a High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council mechanism between Türkiye and Romania would be beneficial in this regard.
Also on the agenda of the call was President Iohannis’ candidacy for NATO Secretary General.
Underscoring that NATO should elect a Secretary General that would serve NATO members’ security and interests in the face of global and regional challenges, especially terrorism, President Erdoğan pointed out that the next Secretary General should strengthen the Alliance’s unity, preserve and enrich the spirit of solidarity, and prioritize its primary role in defense and security-related consultations.
