President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan presented the "Supreme Order of Turkic World" on behalf of the Turkic Council to President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan on the occasion of the Karabakh Victory.
President Erdoğan delivered a speech at the 8th Summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking Countries (Turkic Council), held on Democracy and Freedoms Island, with the theme "Green Technologies and Smart Cities in the Digital Age".
After his speech, President Erdoğan presented the "Supreme Order of Turkic World" on behalf of the Turkic Council to President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan on the occasion of the Turkish-Karabakh Victory.
Addressing Aliyev, President Erdoğan said:
"Mr President, my august brother, victorious commander-in-chief Ilham Aliyev. Under your strong leadership, the occupation of Karabakh, which had lasted 30 years, was ended in a matter of 44 days. This is of great significance not just for our Azerbaijani brothers and sisters but also for the Turkic world at large. The Patriotic War resulted in the implementation of United Nations Security Council resolutions that had been stalled for years. Thus, Azerbaijan has engraved the message of justice on the international community's memory. The Turkic world's unity and solidarity have been bolstered by Azerbaijan re-establishing its territorial integrity. Khari bulbul (Ophrys Caucasica), the symbol of the liberation of Karabakh, has been the harbinger of victory for the Turkic world. The Karabakh Victory not only liberated the occupied lands, but also paved the way for the long-awaited sustainable peace, stability, and cooperation in our region."
Expressing his joy in presenting the Supreme Order of Turkic World to Ilham Aliyev, President Erdoğan commemorated the heroes, who died as martyrs on the way to liberation, with mercy and gratitude.
President Aliyev of Azerbaijan also expressed his delight at being deemed worthy of such an award upon President Erdoğan's initiative.
