President Erdoğan performs Friday prayer in Istanbul

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan performed Friday prayer at Hz. Ali Mosque in Istanbul.

Following the prayer, President Erdoğan responded to reporters’ questions.

Answering a question regarding the Russia-Ukraine war and the talks he had held with his Russian and Ukrainian counterparts, President Erdoğan said that after his phone call with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine the previous night, he would speak with President Vladimir Putin of Russia that day around 4 p.m.

Underscoring that he had told both leaders that Türkiye could host a high-level meeting between the leaders on Crimea and Donbass, President Erdoğan said: “Mr. Zelensky holds a positive view on this. Also, Mr. Putin has not been against it. I hope that we can agree on such a meeting during today’s talk, and that we can host a leaders’ summit in Istanbul, obviously with the date being determined by them. And, consequently, if we can agree with the two leaders on turning this negative course into a positive one, we as Türkiye will be more than glad.”

Asked about the naval mines found in the Bosphorus, President Erdoğan, recalling that the mines had been disposed of, said the Naval Forces had been carrying out intensive works and closely following the issue, and that there was no problem for the time being.
