President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan performed Friday prayer at Hz. Ali Mosque in Istanbul.
Following the prayer, President Erdoğan answered reporters’ questions.
Asked about his recent visit to the U.S., President Erdoğan said that Turkey and the U.S., two NATO allies, should be in a much more different position and underlined that the U.S. is providing weapons and equipment to terrorist organizations rather than fight against them.
Responding to a question about his upcoming visit to Russia scheduled to take place on Wednesday, President Erdoğan drew attention to the threat the Syrian regime poses to Turkey and stated that Turkey expects different approaches in Syria from Russia, a friendly country, as befits the solidarity between Ankara and Moscow. Noting that steps to turn Syria into a region of peace would be discussed during the visit, President Erdoğan added that Turkey seeks way better ties with Russia given the $100-billion target in bilateral trade.
