President Erdoğan pays visit to Khiva, an ancient Turkish-Islamic city

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan arrived in Khiva, one of the most prominent centres of Turkish-Islamic history, as part of his visit to Uzbekistan.

Following his meetings with officials in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, yesterday, President Erdoğan flew to Urgench for the second leg of his visit.

Travelling from Urgench to the ancient city by land, President Erdoğan was accompanied by First Lady Emine Erdoğan, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and First Lady Ziroat Mirziyoyeva of Uzbekistan.

A traditional Turkish welcoming ceremony was held when the two leaders and their accompanying delegations arrived at the “İtchan Kala” area.

President Erdoğan and Mirziyoyev walked through the historical sites in the region, starting at the “İtchan Kala” area.
