President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a telephone conversation with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
During the meeting, developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and Turkey-NATO relations were evaluated.
During the conversation, President Erdoğan stated that Turkey clearly sets forth, not only through rhetoric but also through actions that it stands with decreasing the tension and dialogue in the Eastern Mediterranean issue.
Underlining that despite Greece’s escalation of the tension and provocations, Turkey stands firm in its discreet and nonchalant attitude, President Erdoğan expressed that at this point, the course of the declared exploratory talks depended on the sincere steps Greece would take to tone down.
Expressing his appreciation for the constructive efforts delivered by NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg, President Erdoğan said Turkey has supported NATO’s deconfliction mechanism regarding the Eastern Mediterranean issue since the very beginning, and that they sincerely hope for a settlement to be reached.
Indicating that as Turkey they consider an agreement to be imminent, Erdoğan underscored the significance of NATO’s solidarity, in this context its solidarity with Turkey regarding the resolution of regional problems.
