President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended a meeting with representatives of US think tanks, organised in coordination with the Foundation for Political, Economic and Social Research (SETA), in New York, where he was attending the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
In his remarks here, President Erdoğan thanked the Presidency's Directorate of Communications and SETA for organising the meeting, stating, “These meetings, which have become a tradition, provide an opportunity for us to better understand one another and to take a broad look at global issues.”
Referring to the joint defence agreement they signed with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in Mecca, President Erdoğan said:
“With this agreement, we aim to establish an axis of stability, the absence of which has been felt most acutely in our region. It is imperative to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and uphold the sovereignty of the countries of the region. In Syria, meanwhile, our priority continues to be the preservation of the country’s territorial integrity, the safeguarding of the rights of all ethnic and religious communities, and the complete elimination of terrorist organisations from the country. We believe that our close cooperation with the United States will generate added value not only on a bilateral basis, but also in establishing peace, stability and tranquillity in our region.”
