Statement regarding President Erdoğan’s meeting with Prime Minister Carney of Canada

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who is in New York for the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, met with Prime Minister Mark Carney of Canada.

The meeting addressed Türkiye–Canada bilateral relations as well as regional and global issues.

Stating that Türkiye and Canada, as important NATO allies, play a significant role in the security of the Euro-Atlantic region, President Erdoğan noted that there is considerable potential for cooperation, particularly in the fields of energy and the defense industry; that efforts are being made to seize these opportunities and deepen relations; and added that enhancing contacts between the two countries in the coming period would be beneficial for strengthening cooperation.

Stressing that Türkiye is making efforts to ensure an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the uninterrupted entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, President Erdoğan said that the two-state solution is the only option for resolving the Palestinian issue.

During the meeting, President Erdoğan expressed his satisfaction with Canada’s decision to recognize Palestine as a state and congratulated Prime Minister Carney.
