President Erdoğan meets with President Tebboune of Algeria

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria.

The tête-à-tête meeting at the Presidential Complex was closed to the press.  The interdelegational meeting took place following the tête-à-tête meeting.

Speaking to the press, President Erdoğan stated that they had an efficient meeting with Tebboune.

Stating that they discussed the joint steps and cooperation that could be initiated in fields such as economy, trade, investment, defense industry and tourism, Erdoğan said that mainly the developments in Libya were discussed during the meeting.

Noting that Algeria is one of the most important countries with its geographical location and regional experience, Erdoğan stated the following:

“Turkey has no other purpose than to ensure peace and stability in Libya. We cannot tolerate the shedding of our brothers’ blood in Libya and also opposition to the legitimate government through foreign interventions. We fully support the achievement of ceasefire and the political process adopted by Libyans under the leadership of the United Nations.”

The interdelegational meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Minister of National Defence Hulusi Akar, Head of the National Intelligence Organization Hakan Fidan, Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun and Presidential Spokesperson İbrahim Kalın.

Erdoğan and Tebboune signed the Agreement on the Establishment of High Level Strategic Cooperation Council between the two countries prior to the joint press conference.
