President Erdoğan meets with President Putin of Russia

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who is in Astana for the Sixth Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), met with President Vladimir Putin of Russia.

Speaking at the meeting, President Erdoğan noted that the launch of ro-ro and ro-pax transportation to Russian ports would boost bilateral trade, and said: “Akkuyu is an important step in this process. As you have said, the possible opening of the first turbine of Akkuyu in the first quarter of the next year will create a distinct impact in the world. In the meantime, we have also talked about Sinop with you. If we can take a step regarding Sinop, it will definitely make a multiplier effect. Obviously, Akkuyu meets 10 per cent of our energy demand, and when a second one in Sinop meets another 10 per cent, which will make 20 per cent, these two nuclear power plants will have created a distinct impact in the world.”

GRAIN AND FERTILIZER SHIPMENT

Underscoring that one of the important topics of discussion was grain and fertilizer shipment, President Erdoğan noted that they were determined to ship the Russian grain and fertilizer to less-developed countries over Türkiye, and added: “I believe that the steps Türkiye and Russia will take during this process will annoy some circles, but please less-developed countries on the other hand. Obviously, our determination and the joint works of our officials are of utmost importance. I think the works to be carried out by our Ministries of Agriculture and Forestry, and Energy will further strengthen us.”
