President Erdoğan meets with MIKTA leaders

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with the leaders of MIKTA, a cross-regional consultative platform comprised of Mexico, Indonesia, Republic of Korea, Türkiye and Australia, on the margins of the G20 Summit in New Delhi.

President Erdoğan made a speech during the meeting. Thanking his Indonesian counterpart for organizing this important meeting, President Erdoğan expressed his pleasure to come together with the leaders of MIKTA on its 10th anniversary on the occasion of the G20 Summit in New Delhi.

“INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS BECOME INCREASINGLY LESS CAPABLE OF RESOLVING PROBLEMS”

Stressing that MIKTA was founded 10 years ago as a platform contributing to global communication and to the solution of common problems with a view to consolidating the cooperation among the member states, President Erdoğan said: “MIKTA has covered significant distance in the meantime on the basis of a shared vision and values. However, the threats against global prosperity and stability have also diversified and deepened. The current system has turned out to be incapable of ensuring peace, security and prosperity for all. It is alarming that Islamophobia is on the rise along with international terrorism. These undesired developments remind us of our need for more solidarity, more understanding, and more tolerance. While the injustices in the global system aggravate, international organizations become increasingly less capable of resolving these problems unfortunately. This picture further increases our responsibility to find peace solutions to conflicts, build a fairer world, and secure multilateralism.”

Stressing the importance of spreading the culture of peaceful cohabitation and respect instead of hate crimes, discrimination, Islamophobia and xenophobia, President Erdoğan stated: “It is absolutely inacceptable that sacred values of two billion people are desecrated almost on a daily basis under the guise of ‘freedom of expression.’ We believe that anyone who respects human beings should object to this no matter what their religion. As Türkiye, we will continue to raise our objections on this issue.”

Underlining the critical importance of making international organizations more embracing, inclusive, effective, accountable, democratic and fairer, President Erdoğan stated: “Organizations such as MIKTA are of great importance in this respect. We believe that we as MİKTA countries can positively contribute to combatting food crisis that threatens the whole world. I hope our unity can support our efforts to deal with crises and challenges.”
