Following the National Football Team's 2-1 loss to the Netherlands in the European Championship 2024 (EURO 2024) quarterfinal, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan greeted them in the locker room.
Following the game at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, President Erdoğan met with the National Football Team's players and technical staff in the locker room alongside Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak, President of the Turkish Football Federation Mehmet Büyükekşi, and UEFA Executive Board Member Servet Yardımcı.
"I congratulate you all," Erdoğan added, shaking hands with each national player individually. "Despite the outcome today, you remain our champions. We are very appreciative of you.There will be more games in the future. In the future, it will be us who come out on top. This is what I believe. You have done an excellent job thus far. Whatever happened has happened, and now the road ends. Currently ranked in the top eight, with Allah willing, we will win the championship next season."
Thanking President Erdoğan, Technical Director Vincenzo Montella stated, "We are truly honoured to represent such a country. We will focus on the future."
Shortly after the match, President Erdoğan and First Lady Emine Erdoğan, Chief Advisor to the President on Foreign Policy and Security Ambassador Akif Çağatay Kılıç and Presidency's Deputy Head of Communications Çağatay Özdemir returned to Türkiye.
