President Erdoğan, 45th President and Presidential Candidate Trump of US talk over phone

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke by phone with Donald J. Trump, the 45th President and Presidential Candidate of the United States of America.

The call addressed the assassination attempt on Trump, and its aftermath.

Condemning once again the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, President Erdoğan voiced his sadness over the attack and conveyed his get-well wishes.

President Erdoğan described the assassination attempt as an attack against democracy. Noting that Trump’s courageous stance after the heinous attack was praiseworthy, President Erdoğan said that Trump’s continuation of his programs without any break strengthened democracy and that this should be seen as a sign of confidence in the sagacity of the American people.

Stating that Trump, with his calming messages of unity to reduce polarization and tension after the assassination attempt, displayed strong leadership, President Erdoğan congratulated Donald Trump on being formally nominated by the Republican Party as its presidential candidate.

President Erdoğan also expressed his wish that the U.S. presidential election in November may lead to auspicious results for the American people and the Türkiye-U.S. relations.
