President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, speaking at a dinner held in his honour in the Republic of Korea, said, "We are two nations located at opposite ends of Asia, far apart in distance but close at heart. We are the finest example of how distance cannot stand in the way when destiny brings people together."
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and First Lady Emine Erdoğan attended an Official Dinner held in their honour at the Presidential Palace in Seoul, the capital of the Republic of Korea, which they visited at the invitation of President Lee Jae Myung of the Republic of Korea.
Speaking at the dinner, President Erdoğan expressed his great pleasure at revisiting the Republic of Korea after eight years and thanked his hosts for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation.
President Erdoğan continued:
"We are two nations located at opposite ends of Asia, far apart in distance but close at heart. We are the finest example of how distance cannot stand in the way when destiny brings people together. As a Korean proverb goes, ‘Even the slightest brush of your sleeves is a matter of fate.' Seventy-six years ago, destiny brought us together in the struggle for this land's independence. It made us blood brothers, as you yourselves call the Turkish people. In fact, we are two ancient peoples who have been in contact for more than a thousand years. We wish to carry this shared history forward into new horizons, where we can contribute to a prosperous future for our citizens and the establishment of peace throughout the world."
Stating that his comprehensive talks with President Lee had given him great hope in this regard, President Erdoğan said, "I would like to once again thank Mr President and his esteemed spouse for their hospitality, which has made us feel at home. On this occasion, I extend my warmest greetings to the friendly and allied Korean people on behalf of their 80 million brothers and sisters in Türkiye."
