President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended a ceremony held at Anıtkabir (Atatürk's mausoleum) on the August 30 Victory and Turkish Armed Forces Day.
After President Erdoğan laid a wreath at the mausoleum, a minute of silence was observed and the Turkish National Anthem, the Independence March, was sung.
Proceeding to the Misak-ı Milli Tower, President Erdoğan wrote in the Anıtkabir memorial book the following:
“August Atatürk;
Today, we as a nation are celebrating with pride the 104th anniversary of the Great Victory.
I remember with gratitude Your Excellency, the esteemed members of our Grand National Assembly and the heroic soldiers of our heroic army, whose efforts were instrumental in the Great Victory, one of the turning points of the National Struggle.
We continue to strengthen the Republic of Türkiye, which we regard as the sacred trust of our martyrs and veterans, in every area, guided by the legacy we have inherited from them and in the spirit of brotherhood and solidarity.
Just as we did 104 years ago, we do not allow the heinous plans targeting our country and our region today, and we are resolutely upholding our nation’s independence and future.
Rest in peace.”
