President Erdoğan: “Ankara is central to our Republic’s foundation and progress and our democracy’s development”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said, "Ankara, the city that played a pivotal role in the unwavering and resolute fight against attempts to occupy our homeland, is also central to our Republic’s foundation and progress and our democracy’s development.”

President Erdoğan issued a message on the occasion of the anniversary of Ankara’s declaration as the capital on October 13, 1923.

Stating that Ankara served as headquarters throughout the National War of Independence and hosted strategic decisions and critical institutions on the path to the proclamation of the Republic, President Erdoğan noted the following in his message:

"I congratulate the anniversary of the declaration of Ankara as the capital. Ankara, the city that played a pivotal role in the unwavering and resolute fight against attempts to occupy our homeland, is also central to our Republic’s foundation and progress and our democracy’s development. It is critical to preserve the cultural identity and historical richness of Ankara, which played a crucial role in elevating our Republic to the level of pride.

Representing our thousands-of-years-old state legacy, Ankara will continue to play a pioneering role in our country's growth, building on the achievements of our Republic and advancing our democracy. On this significant day, I would like to commemorate with respect and gratitude Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades, as well as all of our martyrs and veterans, and extend my most heartfelt greeting to all citizens."
